2010 TOURNAMENT A note about Steve.... Steve was an avid 'A' Tennis Player and Platform Tennis player, spending endless hours on the Westwood Courts. Participating in singles, doubles, and mixed, if you were lucky enough to draw Steve as a partner or an opponent; you could be sure that your match would be competitive, fun, and played with courtesy and respect. I first met Steve when he was 15, his first year as a Westwood Life Guard. I was the Westwood Assistant Director at the time. We hit it off right from the start, playing endless hours of tennis for the next 26 years. Not only a tennis partner, but a true friend to my family and me. Steve was always a breath of fresh air, offering compliments, a great smile, an encouraging word, and taking the time to sit and chat about almost anything. You could always count on Steve to brighten up your darkest day. The summer of 2001 would have been our 27th year on the tennis courts together, but during the winter of 1999/2000 , a little over a year ago, Steve was diagnosed with brain cancer. Steve fought this disease gallantly, a gladiator, while never complaining about the pain, discomfort, or lack of encouraging news from the Doctor. Right up till the very end, he fought with honor and dignity. His life and memory are an inspiration to all that he touched along his journey. For every tennis ball that I serve this summer and for all my future tennis, I will take an extra moment and bounce the ball a few more times, while I remember Steve, and his memory will place a smile on my face.
